Everyday Endurance Review and Giveaway!

I've had the wonderful opportunity to try out some great items from Everyday Endurance. They have been a great company to work with and have been very helpful in my decision of which items to test out. I need to talk about my favorite item first. The shirt in the picture above is their performance tee's. I was amazed when I tried it on. It's so light and soft feeling and really has a great "performance" feel to it. It fits well, even on my 5 foot 9 body and that is sometimes hard to find in athletic clothing.

The nice thing about their clothing is the many options you have. They offer 2 different fits when it comes to their premium tees. They either have a more traditional fit or a ladies fit that is more contoured and fitted. They sent me one of each and I was very pleased with both fits to be honest. I sometimes worry with the fitted tees because I don't like things right up on my skin. I like my clothing to be a bit loose and with the fitted tees they were still loose enough that they were flattering. The Regular fit tee had long enough sleeves in a size medium for me and that's awesome in itself. Being as tall as I am, it's hard to find t-shirts that fit me well in the body and in the sleeves.

Would you like a chance to win some Everyday Endurance for yourself? Please don't think you need to be a runner to win this prize. They haves great t-shirt and performance shirts for many sports! Take a look around their site!

Everyday Endurance is giving one reader of Sweet and Savory by Sarah a $100.00 electronic gift card to EverdayEndurance.com!!

Pumpkin Spice Angel Food Cake

This cake is delicious.   It is airy, moist, spicy and everything an angel food cake usually isn't.  I have had many angel food cakes from stores and this is not even comparable to that.  This has flavor and is as moist as a cake that contains yolks and oil.  With that said, this cake also has no fat in it.  It also is very low in calories.  Please enjoy this soon!

Keeping it classy

As always, I'm here to keep it classy.   I made a certain kind of cake today that I will share with you on Monday.  Until then you can check out how exactly I keep it classy.   When you make a cake like this, they tell you to turn it over and let it sit on a bottle until it has fully cooled before removing it from the pan.   A bottle?  Why yes I have a few of those!  This should be easy!

Further more, if anyone has some really great advice on getting that dark crap that sticks to glass top stoves and doesn't wash away, please let me know!  As you can see, I am not very good at getting rid of it.   I have tried baking soda, letting water sit on it, letting that lemon stuff sit on it.   Nothing really gets rid of it all.

Today is the last day to enter the Chickband Giveaway.  You can enter here.   I will post the winner sometime this weekend.

Lastly, let me just say that my job gets in the way of actually doing races.   I usually work Friday and/or Saturday and do not get home until after 1am.   That's not enough sleep to be getting up at 6:30 am or earlier for any of the local races.  Bummer.   Until I win the lottery, there isn't much I can do about it!

I am domesticated and my girls like makeup!

So I had a baking pumpkin sitting around for about a week now and I needed to do something with it.  I  baked the perdy little thing up and took out all the beautiful "meat" and threw it in my food processor.   Instant "Pure Pumpkin" to use in a couple of future pumpkin recipes which makes me excited because I have wanted to make a couple of things this week and haven't been to the store to actually stock up on more canned pumpkin.  Problem solved!  I threw them in the freezer and will take out one bag tomorrow to make something.   Stayed tuned on that!  By the way, one small baking pumpkin made nearly 4 cups of pureed pumpkin.

We've had sickness in the house all weekend.   Katelyn has had a fever since coming home on Friday and today it finally was gone.   We kept her out of school and other activities to give it the 24 hour rule but we did venture out this evening for a quick Halloween related activity.   The girls got to finally get dressed up in their costumes and get some candy and see some family!

One quick note.   Makenzie now has a fever.   When we got home from the pumpkin hunt all she wanted to do was whine and cuddle.  I felt her and of course she was warm :(   Poor thing went right to bed.   Check out what her hair looked like after her nap today.   Insane.  She always gets bad hair on one side particularly while she sleeps.

All Pretty as  Princess!

Katelyn the serious witch!

My other nephew Logan.  I'm lucky he let me take this.   Usually he isn't so cooperative.

And my niece Aubri as a Cupcake!  On the go of course!

Full body shot of Katelyn.   Unfortunately I didn't get one of Makenzie.   It will have to wait until Halloween.

Monday Miles 10-24 and the long run that wasn't meant to be...

This week has been a good one.   The weather has been pretty ideal for this time of year and I have enjoyed running in it!   Sunday I tried to do my first 10 mile long run.  It was going amazingly until I started seeing lightning.  At this point I was about 4 miles from home and I didn't know exactly what to do so I called Mike.   Our conversation went like this:

Me:  "Hey, am I going to get stormed on?"

Mike: "I don't know?"

Me: "Well, I see lightning, can you check the radar and tell me how close it is?"

Mike:  "If you can see lighting doesn't that mean you can get hit by lightning?"

Me: "..........Well.......can you just check the radar?"

Mike: "...... (I can hear him opening the computer to check the radar.)  "Well it looks like it's right on top of us so get home."

Me:  "That's the problem, I am really far from home...I will figure out something....I guess...."

So I ended up running to my parents house which was about 1 mile away.  They didn't expect me to be coming to their door at 7:30pm asking for a ride home.  In the end of it all I didn't get to do my 10 miler and I am so bummed because I know I could have!

ChickBands Review and Giveaway!

So I am one of those runners that likes to look girly and pretty when I run.   Some people don't get it.  I do get people staring and commenting on my bright pink compression socks but I don't care.   It's what I like and I am going to continue to dress this way.   I may not be fast, but I will look the part!!  Chickbands are perfect for that.   They do double work.   They work while you're running to hold your hair back and look fashionable and they work when you are not running as a cute way to spruce up your outfit!  Check out how well this pink glitter one matches my scarf!

Now the truth.   These things DO stay in!  They don't slide and they stay put all day long.  I was skeptical because honestly my hair is very smooth and most other headbands I have slide back constantly through the day.  Kara was even nice enough to let me pick one out for my daughter to try.   Just like Kara has said would happen, Katelyn got out of school and the headband was in exactly the same place as it was when I sent her to school.  That means two things.  One, that it's comfortable enough for her not to pull it out during the day.  Two, that it doesn't slide out on it's own!

This angle makes my nose look big!

Wanna win one for yourself?   Here's how!

Fleet Feet Awesomeness

The weather today is terrible...absolutely freezing, well not technically.  It's 39 degrees currently but the wind is something else.  The windchill is 31 degrees so I am pretty bummed with this increasingly cold weather!   Before I know it, I'm going to be forced to run in a gym or on the treadmill in the kids play room.  Ugh.

It is however the perfect day to skip a run all together.   Tonight is Diva Night and Fleet feet and I am so looking forward to it!  I have heard great things about it and expect to spend more money than I probably should but it's all worth it.  I will be picking my friend up nice and early and we will probably be one of the first there....

Which brings up another slightly embarrassing thing.  The Fleet Feet of the Fox Valley is giving away one of these.  If you do not want to click over, it's this:

Ummm....AMAZING!    Seriously how awesome of a giveaway is that?!  The embarrassing part about it is that they posted this giveaway on their Facebook wall and I had my entry in within the first half hour.....and I live 15 minutes away.   I was the first one to turn in their entry and they even made a comment about it....
Blushing slightly....perhaps it'll show them how much I truly want to win this thing!   I'm just not sure if my entry was good enough.   Only time will tell!

Monday Miles 10-17

Like I previously mentioned, this past week was going to be low in the mileage.  I have a lot going on right now and I did my best at getting some time on my legs.  I didn't do tooooo bad.  If only I had done a long run last night I may have been able to put in significant mileage this past week!    After working Saturday night (get to bed about 2am) and just generally not getting enough sleep this entire weekend, I decided to just watch the Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion and call it a night.  I will start fresh this week and get my long run in this weekend.  I have no idea where I will be at with that since I haven't had a long run in two weeks now.   That's slightly depressing to me!

Real Housewives of New Jersey - So I hope someone out there watches this too but WTF is up with Teresa?  Like when did she get totally crazy?  She has no logic?! And you can tell she's lying or stretching the truth constantly?!  I am confused and that's why you keep getting this "?!"  She used to be one of my faves on the show and now I just am so confused with who she has turned into.

So back to my runs....here we go!

Monday

4 mile run at 10:28 pace.
     .48 cool down walk

Tuesday

2.84 mile run at 10:11 pace.   Would have ran more but I was getting completely down poured on.  It wasn't fun.

     .5 cool down walk

Friday

Saturday

     3.1 miles at a 9:52 pace

St. Joe's Pantry 5k recap

I had my first real 5k this weekend.   I signed up for it a couple of months back with Mike and have been anxiously waiting for it's arrival.  It's safe to say that I now can not WAIT for the next 5k I do.

The day didn't go very well.   We got there early just so that we could settle in before the race and not feel rushed.   We probably had an hour to burn while we waited for the start.   Things went downhill.  I had stomach aches in the morning and I was worried about them but it got so much worse once we were at the 5k.  I was pretty embarrassed because I was in pretty distinct clothing and I ran to the port-a-potties at least 5 times before the race.  I had horrible diarrhea!!!  Each time I was thinking "How the hell am I going to do this?!"  It was safe to say I was freaking the hell out about this.  3 minutes before the race I made another run to the port-a-potties and said to Mike "What the hell am I going to do?!"  I am pretty sure I annoyed the hell out of him asking that question over and over for an hour and completely freaking the eff out!  My stomach was just rumbling in pain.    So the race starts.  I am doing it but I am in pain the entire time.  I feel weak and yucky and my stomach is making loud gurgling noises with each step.   The race went quickly.  It was over before I knew it but I hated the race because of how I felt.   I had no energy after what I had just been through.   My goal prior to being on the shitter all morning was to finish under 30 minutes.   My goal by the time I started the race was just to finish without crapping my pants.

This morning I finally got my official time.  It was a portsmouth start so I wasn't exactly sure what it was until they published it but I finished in 30:36.  I am pretty bummed with that because I know that if I hadn't been sick I would have killed my 30 minute goal.    I am also bummed because I saw Mike finished 4 minutes ahead of me and still didn't manage to get a picture of me for the race.  I have NONE.   Not a single one.  I even asked him to please get one picture of me finishing and he didn't.   Maybe it's for the better.  I probably looked like death.

The weather was also bad running weather.   We had winds up to 35 miles per hour the entire time.   Once I hit the trestle trail, the wind was so hard I felt like I was running in place and not able to breath because it was coming straight on.  My bondi band nearly flew straight off my head into Little Lake Butte Des More.  I had to pull it down so far it was almost covering my eyes for it to stay on.

I'm glad my first 5k is done...

It's not easy being mom and the photographer...

So back when I was in the works of convincing my husband that I NEEDED a digital SLR camera, one of the arguments was that I wouldn't have to pay anyone to take pictures of the kids anymore.  I would be able to do them myself and do just as good if not a better job of taking them.   I truly thought this would be the truth.  The only problem with this theory, and I'm sure every mother with a digital SLR can agree, is that your kids just wont listen to you.   They will give you attitude.  They will cry.   They will refuse to smile because after all, it's just mom taking these pictures.   I have attempted two photo shoots with my girls since having my nifty camera and both have not gone well.  The first one I managed to get some good shots but it lasted about 10 minutes before one was screaming, one was crying and one was having a fit.   You can decide which one was me.  This time I had them all dressed to do fall photos.  I dreamed of this day.   We get there and right away Makenzie is not having it.  She refused to walk 500 yards to where I needed her to be.  SO I start with Katelyn.  She's a ham.   Easy Peasy.  But then I try to take some of Makenzie and it just went down hill.  She would attempt a half smile every once and a while.  Okay so moving on.  I want to get some of them together.  That might be most important.  Well, any time Katelyn moved close to Makenzie, she would scream and yell and cry.  She didn't want Katelyn touching her, breathing on her or even being near her.   Perfect.   I eventually gave up.   Here is what I have to show of it.

Katelyn and Mike waiting...

This girl got some camera time too.

What Makenzie did instead of smiling for me.

The best picture of the day....yes he was posing....

They left me.

Another Giveaway!! Handful Bra!!!

You're gonna have to trust me on this one.  That's me in that picture guys.  My kids just cropped my head out and well.....it's really not me.   I didn't want to scare anyone from having kids so I decided to just leave my stomach to myself .  That and my stretch marked boobs, although you can't see the stretch marks when I wear a bra...or a bikini.....thankfully.   With that said, since having kids my boobies have shrunk.  Growing up I always thought that your ladies got bigger after having kids.  This is not the case for me.  They are small...but let me say the positive side of having small boobs is that they don't do the following:  Hang, droop, go to my knees etc.  Earlier this year when I was in New Orleans with some friends, my friends found a shirt that showed all the stages of boobs.  Wanna know which one my friends picked for me?  The smallest possible!  Like really!!  I'm not THAT small....come on now!   Had they seen me out running I may have agreed with them. Wearing a typical sports bra, I have nothing to be seen.  I may have been mistaken for a guy a time or two by passing drivers even.  Regular sports bras flatten me right out.  I just told myself  "At least I'm not coming home with two black eyes...."

So here we are today, post Handful bra.   I don't see how I can even possibly go back to my old sports bras.   Really.  I'm doing laundry constantly just so that I have them to wear every time I run.   They are so very comfortable.  They don't make you feel STUCK in them.  They are flattering on small chested chicks, like myself.  It actually shows I DO indeed have breasts.   I finally used the proper term for you there.   I am sure some ladies just sighed in relief because they were brought up thinking the B word actually was Boobs....as in they just don't say it!

So would you like to win a Handful bra for yourself?  Here we go!

Grape Jelly

I have never made grape jelly before.  I never expected to make it either!  I didn't know how they made it or what grapes to use.  It just seemed complicated.   Then one day some friends of ours offered us some concord grapes.  The second they were in my car, I could smell them even though they were in a closed plastic container.  It was an amazing smell!  Reminded me of grape juice as a child.   This grape jelly is so very easy, as it seems to be the theme of my blog.  I hope you give it a try!

Ingredients:

2 lbs. concord grapes
2 Cups Sugar
2 Tbs. Lemon Juice

Start off with separating the skin of the grapes from the inside "guts."  It's pretty easy to do with concord grapes.  Just give them a squeeze and the insides pop right out.

Keep the skins in one bowl and the "guts" in another bowl.  Do this to all the grapes.

With a food processor, you are going to pulse the sugar and the skins together.  This is going to liquify the skins.  It's pretty cool!

Run your processor until it's pretty smooth.  You will still have a small amount of skins still visible.   Once done, pour into a heavy bottom pot along with the insides of the grapes.  There will be seeds in this but it'll be strained later so don't worry about them.  Also add your lemon juice.

Stir it together and turn it on high to bring to a boil.

Also at this time, start boiling some jars that you will be storing the jelly in.

Once the grapes come to a boil, turn to low and stir frequently.  You do not want the bottom to burn.   You will continue to cook at a simmer for 25 minutes.   At 25 minutes check your consistency.  You want it to be pretty thick at this point and have boiled down to at least half.   If it hasn't gotten to this point, just continue to cook it.

Once you get it to the thickness you would like, you need to strain it into a bowl to remove the seeds and any of the skins that are left.

Take a spatula and push as much through the strainer as you can.

Place into jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.  The 2 lbs. of grapes made about 2.5 pints of jelly.
