The night before the race we were hit pretty hard by a snow storm. Thankfully by the morning the roads were all cleared and the race was still on. It was a bit windy and in the 30's so it was pretty cold feeling when you were just standing around outside. I wore my Brooks Silver Bullet Jacket and Brooks Silver Bullet Tights so I could keep warm before, during and after the race because I knew I would be standing around for a little while drinking cold beer.
We didn't pick up our bib and shirt until the day of the race. The pick up was smooth and quick. Porta Potty lines were a bit long. We ended up waiting at least 15 minutes to go potty right before the race started.
They very awesomely had signs of paces so people could line up accordingly. Unfortunately, most people didn't know their real capabilities and/or just ignored those signs completely. I lined up right at the 10 minute pace because I didn't want to slow people down and my only real goal was to beat my Turkey Trot time of 50:15.

| I am on the left in this picture. This is where I lined up and stayed...which was over half way back. |
There were some hills. The course was an out and back and on the way out, you were climbing and also going against the wind. It made the way back much more enjoyable. An out and back is sort of entertaining though. You actually get to watch the best runners in action for a short bit.
I convinced my friends Melissa and Ashley to sign up for the run as well and they went to run/walk the 5 miles. Melissa actually got a video of me on the way back. I am in the bright bright green.
I felt pretty awesome the whole race. After it was done, I knew I could have pushed it harder but I'm happy with how it all turned out. I finished in 49:26 with an average pace of 9:54. Here are my mile splits:
Overall, I will absolutely be back next year. The beer was well worth the run and was delicious. It was a well organized race and I also liked the course.

Great race, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteGreat job beating your time goal! Three beers after the race, that is awesome! I have only been to one race with beer afterwards and we got one beer, but turns out there was lots of beer at the end so they were letting people have as much as they wanted!
ReplyDeleteGreat race! 3 beers is a good deal too - I hate when they promise a "beer" and you get a four ounce cup. No deal.
ReplyDeleteAwesome job! Beer as a reward?? I might have to do this next year.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad I was to dehydrated to enjoy the beer :( I'd go back next year only if I could run the whole thing, doubt I'd be able to convince Ashley to go back again though.
ReplyDeleteI had so much fun on Saturday - definitely one of my very favorite races! Great job crushing your goal - especially with the traffic the first mile!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME Race!!
ReplyDeleteI hate race congestion at the beginning, it is a real pace killer.
Congrats on a great race.
Great job Sarah! Hooray for hitting your goal!
ReplyDeletek. i keep reading blog posts about this race. i think i need to come visit next year and run this! congrats on a great race friend!
ReplyDeletegreat pace sarah!!! great job!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a great race! But man, I can NEVER drink beer at the finish line. It sounds like a good idea until I smell it, and I just can't do it. I would have given you my 3 beers!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Sarah, I hate it when people don't honor the pace signs. Congrats on your new PR.
ReplyDeleteNawar
The weather could have been a little nicer but still an overall enjoyable race. We hit the portapotties early so we only waited about 5 min. Great job on your PR!
