The training for this full marathon has flown by. We are still 5 weeks out from the big day but we are already nearing taper. I am so excited for it right now, but of course once I'm in taper mode, it will probably make me crazy. This past weekend was our 19 miler. Once again I set out with the Pace Setters Fox Cities Marathon training group except we set out an hour before the main group. Matt, Lish and I started at 6 am and were done about 9:30....right when it started to feel really warm out. I don't know how many times I said "I'm so glad we started an hour earlier" that morning.
The run was pretty uneventful and pretty smooth. My IT band is acting up again but I try not to assess the success of a run based off of how much my IT band was bothering me but rather by how I felt otherwise and truthfully, it went well! We kept a decent pace and didn't end up stopping at any water stops until over 7 miles in because there weren't any out for our early start. We actually liked it that way and were able to stretch out our running for longer increments since we were only using our handhelds at that time and not depending on the usual 2.5 mile break for Gatorade/Water. We were very thankful for the ice cold water and Gatorade later in our run though!
After the run, Lish and I had the best plan ever. She has a cabin about 30 minutes from us and asked me if I wanted to hang out there after. PERFECT! I went and picked up my kids and headed out to sit in the lake all afternoon.
See how my left rib sticks out? It looks totally normal.
So next weekend we are all doing a half marathon since it's part of our training plan. It's bound to be fun since Matt and Lish will be there and there will be a finish line feast that features all things cheese. It's called the Cheese Head Half Marathon as if you would expect much less of Wisconsin. I'll do my best to take pictures but chances are, I'll get a couple beers in me and forget everything I've promised you. Oh yeah...did I mention free beer? Yeah. There's always that too.
The following week we have the big 20 miler and then we are officially in taper with a 12 and 8 mile run. Then it's MARATHON day!
So today I started off with my weekly meal planning. I bought one of those refrigerator magnet weekly calendars and the kids looooove when I put down our menu for the week. Mike likes it too but also likes to point out that I sometimes miss what is on schedule by saying "Where's the beef roast?"
Also, the winner of the Zensah Compression Socks is Nancy T. I sent an email and if I don't hear back within 48 hours will pick another winner.
I hope everyone had a great weekend! Make this week great!
