I met up with Matt, Lish, and Kim and we chatted it up. Kim decided she was going to pace Matt to a PR so she took his Garmin from him. This guy is a Garmin whore and watches his Garmin constantly while he runs so I found this entertaining. I run with Matt for 90% of my runs and I never have to look at my Garmin because he will instinctively tell me our pace for each mile. I don't mind it. I also never ever have to look to cross streets. He does all the work and I just follow.
It just so happens that I lost my Garmin prior to this race (it has been found) so I was forced to run it naked. Not a problem because like I just mentioned, I very rarely look at my Garmin while I'm running. My 5k PR was on a course with no Garmin either so it works for me.
The weather was warmish humidish for October weather in Wisconsin.
Before we knew it, we were off. I started off trying to chase Kim and Matt but I was constantly running up on curbs and dodging around people so I eventually lost them and let it go. I just ran and ran and ran and felt really really good the first half. Too good. I was taking it way too moderately and even remember thinking this during the race. At the turn around it got a bit harder. We were now running straight into the wind (it's bad on the Trestle) and obviously the second half of a race is never easier than the first.
|Apparently my legs were the focus in this picture...|
At the end I did feel like my typical "I might Puke" but I feel like every 5k will always feel this way unless I don't take it at all seriously.
I finished in 26:59 and feeling pretty darn good. I did not push it hard enough. Ugh. Now I feel like doing another 5k just so I can kick my own ass. The next one is in December though and I am looking forward to it!
After, they had a buffet of food so we all ate a little and waited around forever for door prizes. I ended up winning a Party Sub from Cousins and a Pizza from Papa Johns. Not too bad!
Next up, Tyrenena Half Marathon on November 2nd! It's going to get crazy!!
